Go Natural pornography?

A newsagent has been asked to remove the current issue of Go Natural, a naturist magazine our of New Zealand, from the shelves because of concerns about child pornography. They visited the shop after receiving a complaint from a local about the magazine.

Newsagents rely on publishers and distributors for providing product with appropriate notices regarding restricted display or sale.

i took nudists magazines off our shelves about 12 months ago because of the same child nudity concerns.

i draw the line at selling pictures of nude children to anyone. what ever the context.

this blog site and several regulars was full of praise some time ago for the TAN magazine despite ample evidence of naked children being displayed.

    It never hit our shelves

I don’t know about other publications but as a former reader of TAN I used to find that it was very careful about the depiction of children, in that they very much erred on the side of caution and rarely included photos of minors and any that they did were usually clothed. I found that that magazine was very responsible in that regard and I can’t see why they would have relaxed that standard in more recent times given the greater public concern over that sort of content.

I feel as a parent of young children myself it is wrong that any parent lets there children been seen in any of these magazine as they have no say in it they are to young to decide if they want this to be there life style .

Hit me over the head with a piece of 4×2 to help me understand what possible enjoyment you get out of drooling over the TAN magazine.
Why in God’s name do you need that sort of publication in mainstream retail outlets, that allowed gratuitious display of naked children (they were not clothed Andy)and pasty obese bodies.
Picture,People,Zoo readily supply eye candy if thats what turns you on.

should the publisher be in trouble for printing photos of naked children?

i would have thought the parents wouldnt let it happen.

the magazine publisher would obey the law.

and the government would enforce the law to stop this type of content appreaing in my store.

instead, me the retailer, has to make a decision and regulate what we put on our shelves.

thankfully this is the only category we need to look out for.

“and the government would enforce the law”

I don’t know what you mean by enforce the law. Clearly these kinds of magazines are not against the law, and if you have a moral objection then you should use your right not to stock them. I am a parent and wouldn’t like my kids in these magazines either, but it seems on issues like this people speak with emotion rather than logic. Live long and prosper.

Gus there certainly is nothing to “drool” over in TAN. It is not porn, it is not meant to be eye candy or sexy & that is the misconception that many people have of the nudist lifestyle. (hence why it isnt sold in a plastic wrapper and is classified for general sale) Its not about titilation or drooling, it is a social lifestyle that is nothing about sex its just that people (like some people here it seems) assume that nude is code for sex and it isnt. but I take your comments on board if they are publishing children in a gratuitous manner, then that is a change since i’ve bought those magazines – and they shoudln’t do it and I’m sure the relevant authorities who classify is as unrestricted sale would like to follow that up.

As for People or Zoo magazines well i wouldn’t bother with them. The internet does a far better job of that!!

Peter, I am pretty sure you are incorrect. Nudity does not equal pornography or else parents would be arrested around the country and have their photo albums seized.

It depends on context but it’s not illegal (yet). If the naturists can argue their way out of it, then all power to them – it is a lifestyle choice after all, as is taking your child into the newsagency and leaving them to browse unattended (!). personally I view the mags with some trepidation (as a twenty-something female) and to be honest, I’ve only ever sold it to middle-aged/older men in the stores I’ve worked in. however, I wouldn’t take it off the shelf though, I’m proud my store can offer customers their choice of magazines – i believe in diversity after all.

    The comments here are extraordinary.

If you have a prejudice against all photos of naked children in a legal magazine about a family lifestyle with a long history and known benefits, then why are you imposing that on everyone else?

Australian officialdom has gone mad with such prejudice and ignorance. It’s not enough that the KRuddy government wrongly accused its most famous photographer of producing child pornography in 2008, now it wants to change the laws to agree with its stupidity, and force its paternalistic, bigoted moralism on the whole country by censoring the Internet for every single Australian. Is that just fine by you?

There isn’t a single reputable piece of research in the past 40 years that I have uncovered that shows that legal photos of nudity cause or increase crime. Believe me, people have tried to prove that, and failed.

No, I don’t live in Australia. Those of you who do ought to be horrified at what your government is doing to your rights. You may not care about this subject; but if the rights I refer to are removed for totally specious reasons, do you think the government will stop at that?

Dr, it is more to do with the rights of the children in the magazines i am sure they have no say that they want to be butt naked for all the world to see it is just something that mum and dad like doing so the children just follow in there foot steps . There are just to many sick basterds in the world that would take advantage of this lifestyle and would quite happily pick it up for a purve . As a lifestyle for adults i say yeah go for it it harm no one but leave the children out of it

Thanks for asking, Shaun. But no, this has been a family activity for over a century. Naturism us *not* an “adult lifestyle,” because it’s not sexualised.

There are in fact not as many “sick bastards” as you may think (in the USA child sexual abuse has dropped enormously in the past 18 years); and it’s very harmful to a democracy to take away the freedoms of people to bring up their children as they see fit (and discuss and present that) because of a danger that’s wildly exaggerated by officials everywhere who haven’t a clue. Kevin Rudd is one such official. Hetty Johnston (“Bravehearts”) is another.

Children don’t have a say in being naked? Of course they do, and more say as they get older. This isn’t a cult! It’s largely a recreational activity for families and persons of *all* ages.

Often children have less say in attending certain schools or churches, or living in certain places, or doing certain activities, all of which may be much worse for them than appearing in a healthy, wholesome naturist magazine.

Feelings about nudity and other people’s kids need grounding in reality instead of rumour, innuendo, and lack of information.

I repeat: photos of naked kids in naturist magazines do not cause or increase crime.

To those newsagents and others who think it is acceptable to act as censors to suppress public knowledge of a natural and healthy lifestyle, just because they do not understand it, I have some questions.

Have you also removed all ‘girlie’ magazine from your shelves in case they incite men to go out and rape women? If not, why not? Is it because you think it is OK to incite men to rape older women?

Have you also removed magazines featuring guns in case they incite gun-crazy people to shoot people? If not, why not?

Have you also removed hot-car magazines in case they encourage boy-racers on our streets? again, if not,why not?

I look forward to your considered responses.

your shallow arguments to justify the exhibition of naked children is as lame as your outlook on life.
Mature adults understand that there may be a need for soft porn to appeal to that type of customer. Mature adults buy motoring magazines by the crateload.
I have never met a mature adult who enjoys looking at naked children in a magazine but if that is your style then keep it to yourself. There is no need to support any magazine that sees the need to exhibit naked chldren
Sadly we live in a different world today and we dont need the Dennis Fergusons of this world hanging around newsagencies to browse Tan or any other mag of that style

I find it very interesting that people immediately link nudity and porn. Nudity is possibly without it being porn. Look in your photo album at home.

Gus, mature adults do buy motoring magazines, but kid’s also buy them and use them as motivation before they kill themselves and four of their friends.

Bob , i am sure most buy the mag for the life style or how ever you or anyone else wants to put it but even if is .01% that buy it for a purve it is wrong and the kids should be kept out of it . i don’t think i have ever sold a copy to anyone with the slightest tan and i would say 80% that do buy it will also buy a people or picture so to me they are buying for a purve for which i must say i have no problem with people having a purve gees i will even have a look myself while putting them on the shelf and for that reason keep the kids out of it
