I believe that whilst there appears to be many questions unanswered as far as the News Ltd Contract is concerned. It is totally irresponsible of NANA to suggest to Newsagents to not sign the document. The end decision lies with the Newsagent not NANA.

The Newsagent is the one who will stand to loose most if News Ltd do not renew the said Contract for a Newsagent who listens to NANA. Then who is to blame ?

    Shame Stan Cousins shame.

The Newsagent must stand up and fight for a more equitable contract. If we don’t sign how do you think News Ltd will deliver their papers come 1st. Feb

Mark, you ignored my legal comments.

What fat chance has a newsagent got of changing what has been presented. The newsagent was sold out in the first place. The ACCC gave permission for the associations to negotiate on our behalf and the so called experts in charge of our associations did not get even one of their suggestions through to the contract we received.
So mucvh for associations who ac ted on instinct rather than obtain professional mediation.
As you say the probelms with contracts started or should have started 10 years ago. We are late bloomers and consequently we have drawn the short straw.

The only way forward from here is for all newsagents to let the ACCC know of their concenrs and not tell newsagents to not sign their contracts. That leaves the newsagent in a precarious state. I assure yuou their will be some newsies out their who will listen to that guy from NANA and I bet he will not fight the fight for the newsie who listens to ill nformed statements.

I am really coincerned at the way NEWS treat us with so much ignorance and flipant ways.

P.A. From the point of view that you present, you have given up. It’s all over Red Rover! If it is then why succumb to rape as you present it.
I am not critising you far from it only trying to understand, Have you capitulated and therefore believe everyone should? Do you believe that Associations have no role in offering their opinion?
Mark takes a stand rightlly or wrongly it is up to you to decide. Same as NANA What is your decision apart from critism?

Graeme – I am not giving up as you put it.
I believe that unity is strength in this situation and when an association suggests to Newsies that they do not sign the document it is, to me,one persons view without legal foundation given that could lead the unsuspecting weaker newsagent to do just that.

News Ltd could and probably would not honour his agreement and then take action against him and the Newsie would be at loss.

Who is going to back him after that ?

On the other hand and with hindsight our associations should be placing their funding into professional consultation with News Ltd as unity makes strength.

It is disappointing to learn that despite association representation and the fanfare that went with it that they did not strike an accord with any of their points with News Ltd prior to the Contract being issued.

Please do not missunderstand me – News Ltd are just as at fault as they entered into discussion prior to issuance of the new contracts I believe knowing the direction they were to take.

Proactive, I think you may be a tad too unfair. Please reread what NANA said I repeated it here. It was in essense don’t sign until..we advise further I suggest you as a newsagent contact them and find out what they are waiting on. Once you sign you can’t undo it.
Mark says the say and we come from different angles however common sense is just that.

It is the common belief that ALL Associations tried in their discussion to have some compromise and were told take it or leave it.
Some view this as the most crucial point in our history. If that is so it is better to act caustiously than in haste.

Does NANA really represent national unity. Negotiations only work when the points for discussion are clear & controlled by the central industry body

The points are State by State check out S.A.
The real point is do you want someone to point out on your behalf the inadequacies as they see them or don’t you want representation?
Forget about State versus Federal it’s far too late for that. If a contract is unfair legally then it’s unfair no matter which body puts that forward. I would think one would be grateful for support no matter where it came from.
Negotiations only work when ANY party to that negotiation makes an agreement the rest is totally B.S.

Well i would like to hear what NANA comes up with . I know at the end it will be up to each newagent to decide what coarse they take but the more input we get the better choice we will make so good on u NANA
