Back to the future at Gotch?

fhn_gotch_overseas.JPGLike many newsagents I suspeect we received plenty of new overseas titles today.  Too many for my liking.  These are titles with high cover prices and with very limited appeal.  Titles like: Reef Life, Hair Showcase, Beautiful Baths, Film Comment, Romance Special and plenty more.

Newsagents don’t have the space or the cash flow to support new unwanted stock of the volume sent out today by Gotch.  We need a penalty process which protects the newsagent network abuse.

    Mark;
I would be interested to know whether your store recently deleted some titles.
Every time we delete titles at both my stores, GG send just as many new titles.
This is no coincidence, as it occurs every time we delete titles.

Well said Mark, i would also like to know who came up with the idea of packing ping pong balls in with Krash magazine? Who would have imagined that ping pong balls would end up crushed when packed in boxes with other magazines. This is a shame because Krash is normally an ok seller for us but as it is i am forced to early return nearly half of my allocation. To Vaughan i have a sneaky suspicion you may be right!!!

    It’s SNAFU.

A penalty could be paying freight for the returns.

Mark – despite comments from you in the past saying G&G have improved – we have not seen this in our business. They are a law unto themselves. e.g. STOPPING TITLES? Yes – maybe for an issue or so – then back to oversupply e.g. PARTWORKS? a nightmare – how can they still keep getting scale-out qty’s so wrong e.g. ACCOUNTS – no accountability. I am amazed that great publishers; like Pacific Mags, let these guys get between them & us. The greatest hinderance to increasing mag sales is the distributors like G&G.

i normaly don’t do early returns, oh yes i have been a good boy, but since this ‘mags sale crisis’ i need to do early returns with those 3 companies, otherwise i have to auction my undies to those beautiful women on ebay. i realize too that the more you return the more they send you more titles and i end up playing cat and mouse with them .

Eric if i didn’t early return i might as well close the doors i would make more money that way. last month with GG i would have been better of just closing my account because it cost me an extra 3000 more than my sales last month ,it just makes no sence .HOPEFULLLLY that has been all fixed ….again.. so it will be mangable for another few moths then back to square one

This is what most newsagents are facing; 1 July – 30 Sept.

    Invoiced GG
    18514 Units, $87,843.66 incl.

    Sales GG
    9772 units
    $61,509.50 incl.

…….and they wonder why we continue to shake our heads in disbelief!

interesting article Inky, makes you wonder about all the magazines that sent all over the world every day only to end up in a recycle bin without ever making it on to a retailers shelf!
