With ‘shag’ bands in the news over the weekend, the latest issue of Girlpower magazine is a challenge for newsagents since it has bands bundled with the magazine. Some newsagents are asking whether they should promote this issue. For other definitions of shag branbds, check out urban dictionary.
Maybe I am disconnected but the ‘shag’ bands story sounds like a beat up. I’m happy for the magazine to be on the shelf. If it was removed for this then the magazine shelves would look quite bare.

the kids love these bracelets and most don’t even know of the offensive meanings placed on them via the media .This is a media beat up and they are just pretty things the girls wear.
If newsagents are that uptight they don’t sell the mag with kids braclets attached they need to loosen up.

Our issue has been complaints that our customers have made. We want to sell the mag, but parents are sensitive to stories like this and want to protect their kids. Unfortunately we can’t have it both ways.

And tween/teen mags like Girlfriend and Dolly are bought for similar age groups by their mothers without batting an eyelid.
Go figure.

Hmmm… I guess times haven’t changed that much then. I remember having these when I was at High School, though we had a cruder name for them, but its definately not a new concept. Depsite the name, can’t say it ever had much effect on my love life.
And yes Y&G those complaining are probably those that buy Dolly, Cosmo and Girlfriend without batting an eyelid.

I don’t see anything wrong with these bands.
Some people were wearing them throughout highschool (only finished last year) but it’s probably nothing they haven’t done before.
