Like many newsagents, we have given prime position to the celebration of Vogue magazine’s 50 years. The collateral is excellent, true Vogue style. The multiple covers are stunning.
The launch of the issue has generated media coverage which should drive interest.
Vogue is an important brand to newsagents as it anchors our fashion segment. It is a beacon brand around which we can build business for other titles. The Vogue brand is especially important for those of us who carry editions from various countries.
We will leave this display in place for at least a week – depending on sales.
It is disappointing that newsagents who actively support the title were not given an opportunity to take on the boxed edition.
Mark,
Yes Vogue looks terrific this issue, and it certainly is a beacon for the fashion category. Now in my third newsagency, and having supported the title for many of its 50 years, I was extremely dissapointed that i could not get my hands on a copy of the boxed edition. I have had to dissapoint loyal customers, who wanted a boxed copy, and I hate dissapointing customers.
What was NDD thinking when they decided to only distribute to a select group of newsagents the boxed issue? Are the rest of us newsagents, who belong to strong banner groups like newsxpress and nextra and newspower not good enough?
The retail footprint we provide( for free ) is it not worth NDD supporting?
We are crying out for issues of beacon titles like Vogue so we can build a display around, yet we are ignored!!! The publisher and the distributor NDD are a disgrace for ignoring newsagents with such disdain. How they forget their humble beginnings when newsagents helped to forge their sales onto the retail landscape through our vast network.
I for one will not forget this act of disloyalty.

Chris Mc,
You are right, the banner groups and any other agents should not have missed out on the boxed vogue issue. My apologies.

Chris, News Magazines decided who received the stock of the book not NDD. Given the cost of the book to produce and that it is firm sale, I am sure they would focus on the newsagents most likely to sell copies easily.
I have been offered the ability to order the book because of the premium our manager at Forest Commited to (and completed this morning). My newsagency also received a free book this afternoon as a gift – as did others who participated I am sure.
As for your comment about the past – this is irrelevant today to us and to our suppliers.

Ok lets exonerate NDD this time.
I still want to know why we were not given an opportunity to sell the boxed edition.
I was once told never to judge the look of a customer, and if the publisher of vogue thinks that their tilte only SELLS WELL in Toorak then they have got their heads in the sand.
Collectors come in all shapes and sizes, and in all demographics.

Book? Mark I think are you confused.
From what I’ve heard, News Magazines gave the boxed edition to a number of the top-selling newsagents of Vogue. Its limited edition so couldn’t give it to every agent. It doesn’t make sense that they would automatically exclude certain chains though.

Dave, There are two books. One in a box and one not in a box. I was given one not in a box as a reward for a display. I, along with other newsagents, can buy this to sell. The boxed book was made available by the publisher to a limited number of outlets to sell.
