Based on sales already this week, I expect today to be a monster day not only for lottery sales but also for other product we are pitching around the lottery offer. We are most fortunate to have another opportunity like this so soon after the OzLotto jackpot and to have additional lottery kacpots to sell – like the Oz $20 million and the Saturday Lotto $20 million.
Gifts, magazines and books are all benefiting from the bonus lottery traffic.
Newsagent suppliers would be well advised to stay away today from newsagencies with lotteries.
We are finding that the lotto jackpots are too close together. If the $80m had appeared in another month or two I think the interest would have been much bigger!
Having said that we are enjoying a busy day today.

Vaughan i have about the same figure as you ,still a great day but nothing compared to the oz lotto day which is funny because normally our thursday lotto is the biggest day of the week for lotto ,i think a lot of people put a lot put that little bit extra in being a one off high lotto and then only for it to be repeated a few weeks later it waas not such a big deal the second time round for them .Anyway sales were still excellent and bring on the next big lotto …

our sales for poweball are 1/2 of what oz lotto was i think the novelty has worn off when there are so many jackpots so close

I wonder how their online sales are going?
Seeing that they are now heavily promoting this side of their business. Does anyone have any idea how the figures for online lotto sales are tracking?

Do you have a source for that info Helen? I’d have no idea how much it is but I wouldn’t have thought it’d be that much.

a regular comment from punters is that these mega draws should be “softened” into multiples of $10 or $20 million for first division to create more enthusiasm instead of the anticlimax of one potential winner. This could be an extraordinary marketing plan for the lotto agencies

G yes just about every customer had something to say about that

I asked that very question with Lotto and they claim that a 20Million would not generate the sales that a 70 would. Perhaps that would be true, but if the second, third and forth Division prizes were larger as a result of capping 1st Division then I feel many more would be happy to play.

Helen,
$250 Million + per annum is a sizeable number.
What do people in our industry feel and think will happen 5 years down the track with online sales gathering momentum and our network not being able to share in the spoils?
Has the LAAV discussed these issues with Lotteries? E-readers, Online Lotteries, our industry is indeed headed for an evolutionary cycle which will change the landscape.

Of course with the extra charges that they are allowed to slug the punter with, $250M isn’t that much.

Chris,
the laav originally had negotiated an inprinciple agreement for a share of the spoils from online sales for the existing outlets from Tatts, before it started to trade online tatts renegged and the laav didnt,or maybe to be fair to them, couldnt do anything about it and havent been able to since. We need to have some ability to compete, individually and or collectively, in the online space or that segment of our business is doomed, tatts alone have over 120000 registered users, let alone the other providers ,growing rapidly

Now that Golden Casket and Tatts are joined at the hip maybe we too down here can share in the online spoils like our brothers and sisters up north?
