Melbourne Australia’s worst capital city for newspapers

Crikey published a story yesterday about the dearth of newsagencies in Melbourne.  It’s true.  Melbourne is the worst-serviced capital city in Australia when it comes to newspaper and magazine range.  As I commented to the journalist writing the article, I suspect that high rents, poor margins and static retail prices are the key factors in play here.

Crikey, I was told from someone on this site that they had their own news gathering news room and now we find out from them how they get it. and they have the hide to want to charge a fee for it. It’s like that add on TV where that bloke is fixing a fence and says how handy his friends are for borrowing things, the sponge. It’s just bad manners.

Melbourne had the best newsagents in the world until Professor Allan Fels stuffed it all up.
