Sunday Telegraph missing today?

Power problems at the News Limited printing plant overnight will see some, maybe many, newsagents without the Sunday Telegraph today.  There will be  calls from customers asking, in various levels of agitation,  where’s my paper?  There are also billing issues.  For Tower Newsagents we issued advice this morning reminding how to handle this easily.

I cannot find any mention of this on the Telegraph website.   That makes me wonder if the problem is not as widespread as newsagents tell me.

recieved fax around 3.30ish this morning stating

At midnight on Saturday 18 July 2009 our print centre at Chllora experienced a serious power outage that has affected our print production capabilites. This has had a significant impact on our ability to both print and publish the Sunday Telegraph for 19 July 2009.

For country : All copies for NSW far country and interstate were successfully printed and published prior to the production problem

ACT: Approximately 50% of the totala supply for ACT has been printed and dispatched with deliveries of these copies expected to arrive up to two hours late

NEWCASTLE WOLLONGONG AND CENTRAL COAST: Newcastle and Wollongong will not recieve any copies of the Sunday Telegraph this week. The Central Coast will receive approximately 50% of total supply. These copies are expected to arrive up to four hours late.

    SYDNEY METRO:
It is expected that full supplies wiil be printed for distribution into the Sydney metro area. Due to significantly reduced production capacity, some agents will not receive copies in time to successfully conduct their home deliveries rounds. Delivery in the metro area will be delayed a minimum of three hours and some copies may not include all regular inserted sections.

We apologise for all the inconvenience this causes to both you and your customers. We understand this will impact your ability to distribute/sell both home delivered and retail copies and appreciate your assistance in managing the disappointment of some of your customers.

    Yours Sincerely
    Nationwide News

It has to be asked what compensation structure the Telegraph has in place for newsagents that didn’t receive their allocation?

If, for example, you missed out on 300 Sunday Telegraphs, that leaves a considerable hole in your daily takings, not to mention other items a customer may have purchased due to a problem at the publisher’s end.

Surely, the Telegraph has to have insurance in place for such an occurrence?

The Newsagents Federation should be actively pursuing compensation for the newsagents that failed to receive the newspapers for the financial shortfall.
