Placement of controversial issue of OK!

fhn_jackson_mags1.jpgWe decided to not place OK! from the UK with our other Michael Jackson titles because of the controversy around their use of the last known photo of Michael Jackson on the cover.  This decision by our magazine team this morning is one I respect.  Instead of featuring the title as we might have, we have placed it in its usual position with our range of UK weeklies.

I aplaud your magazine team for their obvious respect and candor. Although I am not a huge Micheal fan, I still believe it to be sad that they can hound him in death as they did in life. Well done team on a socially responsible decision.

I think that demonstrates how Newsagents are more in touch with their customers than what some “suppliers” might think. We don’t just put it on the shelves and take the money.

We sometimes have to tread carefully because a photo like that heavily promoted can actually give our customers a bad shopping experience.

I’m surprised there hasn’t been an uproar about this. I early returned the magazine on principal because publishing photos of dead celebrities just goes too far in my opinion. Remember the uproar when someone considered publishing a post mortem photo of princess Di?
