There was some “barcode box” in Men’s Health last month, that you could scan with your phone to get bonus pages for certain workouts.

Off the topic, but shows technology is creeping in.

QR-Codes. They’ve been aound in countries like Japan for some time now and are fast making their way into Australia. Their application is so diverse it actually presents retailers with soe opportunities if they want to get creative.

…nobody knows how to use them though. They’ll fail.

Apprently my old phone could read them, couldnt for the life of me ever find anything that did.. seems like a waste of time.

    Nahcoob,

They are only just gaining traction here (since Telstra made a big fuss about them). I’ve seen them being used more and more in different locations.

They have already succeeded enormously in other countries that adopted them well before most of Australia had even heard of the technology.

With a major telecommunications company like Telstra behind the technology more manufacturers are including QR-readers standard in their phones. A lot of phones (unless relatively new models) just need to have he software loaded. Generally, if the phone has a decent camera then it will be able to read the codes.

They’re everywhere in Japan. even on mcdonalds placemats, as well as webpages.

yet some phones in australia, with the required software and hardware capabalities still are unable to scan those codes at all.
