NDD has increased our supply of Organic Gardener without any justification in our sales numbers. The only reason they have for sending this excess stock is to access our cash for the four months it is on-sale.
Not only holding your money for four months, but if you look at the “returns alert circular” you’ll see other titles already on your shelves (if you haven’t already returned them) that have had their recall extended.
Mark, Maybe you should teach them about magazines sales decay?

Mark,
I’m sure if you were compliant and privided your sales data (for free), this kind of thing would’nt happen, or would it. Perhaps our sales data almost gives them an excuse to oversupply. You sold (1) we had better send you (20) more.

Shaun, I noticed that as well – but I wasn’t overly supplied.
I have not worked in distribution of newsagents in Aust, but is there room for a ‘direct market’. This is where the wholesaler collates orders from the publisher and the retailed can order the exact number they require, but with no returns. They would also get a larger discount. I use to work in distribution in Canada (in a niche market) which operated this way

yes I believe the titles under NDD have reduced quite significantly, judging by the deliveries we get.
Wednesday is now loaded with all titles.
We have also noticed they keep missing on our supplementary returns, some I have noticed is where delayed billing occurs, fair enough so I have to be vigilant on this.
Also when are they going to make available online supplementary returns as it will be much easer to source the code/title online like G&G and Network.
Guess if they kept to this archaic method, it will discourage others from processing early returns

They probably won’t make supplementary returns online, because it’s more work for us to chase up what they miss – as if the onus is on us to do the right thing, and they’re free from any responsibility.
Sometimes we felt that we had to take photos of what we had to return, because hardly one form would be processed properly. Or titles would appear on normal return forms as not having been returned. Or they would insist that only so many copies were allocated, yet we’d given back a greater number than that. However, if they have them, how can we prove it? Very suss!
Either way, always more work to follow up, and a snooty response for your trouble.
I understand that NDD have started accepting supp returns via EDI already. Should be available this month but I will have to confirm that.

We have had very few issues with returns not being credited correctly with NDD. I’m not sure how widespread the problem is amongst newsagents and it would be interesting to see if it’s limited to a state or if it’s random.
Our biggest account/return issues come from Network. We have been submitting normal returns on line for months now (supplementary returns by paper), and the only difference is that now we get an email instead of a letter which advises that they are rejecting an overclaim (in every supplementary return?!). And I have only been successful on one (1) occasion in convincing them I am right.
I do understand the issues agents have with NDD (especially with oversupplies), but personally I believe Network is worse for us because we have almost as many oversupplies as we do rejected supplementary credits. The difference is, we cannot afford (for our business’ sake) to close down our Network account.

We haven’t found Network much better in the customer service stakes. And there’s hardly a week goes by at times, where there hasn’t been some kind of problem with supply. We’ve always done online supplementaries with no dramas, though.

Dont Pay Em
Change your trading terms with NDD to 60 days. When they ring wanting money, tell them your new trading terms with them are 60 days until they sort out the supply problems.
Many newsagents i know are already doing this. Push it out to 90 days and they will stop your account, but who really cares? At 60 days you will still get supplies.
If enough newsagents do this they will either get the message or go under.

NDD’s customer service is shocking!
Month after month there is always returns that have not been credited. I just keep sending them faxes notifying which has not been credited. Received March Statement and +-$1200.00 has not been Credited. I pay once my Credits come through and that’s usually 60days
