Promoting 2009 season AFL cards

fhn_afl_select.JPGThe 2009 Select AFL Champions cards were launched today and we are promoting the cards and album at our premium counter point.

Endorsed by the AFL and the Players Association, the cards have always been a good seller for us.  Based on sales so far of other AFL related products this year, I’d expect sales of the Select cards to be up on last year – hence our opportunistic high traffic area display.

One reason we like these and other AFL collectible cards is that they are habit based product.  They will bring people back – as long as they associate our shop with satisfying their interest.  To anchor our place in their minds we work hard to ensure that we have enough stock for long into the season.

Here in Sydney we also received the AFL cards, but where are the NRL cards??

With the NRL season starting over the last weekend, NSW stores could have done well by featuring that sport. However, NRL cards appear not to be available yet. What a shame?

it is nice to display them in the best position in the shop, but we found those cards and albums have legs and will walk out the door in no time.

Here’s an interesting question from someone handling these for the first time: someone came in, went through the display stock and was able to pick out all the packs with special cards in them. After buying and opening them he told me one of the cards was worth $80 and he could sell it today. He also said that despite the comments about randomness on the back of the box, the number of packs with special cards in each box is fixed. Since the three packs he bought all contained special cards, I assume he knows what he’s talking about. On the surface, this seems most unfair, as anyone else buying a pack from this box now has no chance of getting the special cards. Do you impose any restrictions, such as taking the top pack?

Thanks for the advice. Pity they didn’t include something for us novices in this year’s shipment!

Good point Chris. They never do.

We are happy to sell boxes but stopped letting them weigh them three years ago.
