I spoke with a potential new supplier to the newsagency channel yesterday and they claimed that an organisation (not a marketing group) representing newsagents they spoke with asked for six figure sum to access the newsagency channel. For the six figures they would endorse the new product and circulate promotional provided by the supplier.
Any organisation charging a fee to access newsagents has an obligation to disclose an access or any other fee associated with newsagents.
Those representing newsagents must ensure that the maximum margin possible from every transaction is left at the newsagency counter and not in an office or chunky pay packet in an office somewhere.
You’re right Mark, they should be disclosing it to whom they represent.
What’s with the six figure sum? Is it a crap product that needs to be off loaded onto newsagents shelves? Or is it whoever trying to make some cash out of the priviliged position they are in?
Six figures? I shake my head, seeing we all aren’t honestly represented by anyone.
Why do the not go direct to nextra newsextra newsxpress news power and cut them out .How dare they charge to supply my store .This is bull I for one do not want any of there crap ever again
Most marketing groups ask for a fee to introduce products to their members but it would be good to know who this body is that claims to represent the industry. I haven’t got a problem with people making money as long as it is not reducing my profits or margins and the product will not harm my future business ie bill express.
This is exactly the reason why I have not
renewed any subscriptions with any of
the associations because none of them can do anything for me and after recognizing that fact I have taken true
ownership of my own business and I source product myself which I then share
with other agents c/- the newsagents’
forum and I have been very satisfied with
that. I have other agents who share with
me as well and we have helped each other
in the marketplace. Associations should
be rubbed out and started again.
Newsagents are their own worst enemies.
They won’t standardize themselves and they refuse to upgrade facilities etc so it
is no use whingeing until we get our act
together.
