Displaying magazines

I am often asked about magazines we carry and how they are laid out in our magazine department. I have put together a slide show of photos taken insequence down each of our magazine aisles.

We have magazines elsewhere in the shop as well as feature displays. The photos in this slide show only cover the core magazine department.

That looks excellent. What do you do with the wider magazines that tend to put everything in it’s row off?

Squeeze as best we can. Only occasionally to we overlap.

    Very impressive Mark!
If only the magazine suppliers can realise that we are still the No:1 destination for mags –

I probably have more shelving than that in my magazine section but struggle to give each magazine full cover space without overlapping in the last few rows. Should i consider culling my magazine section?

James, whether to cut a title or not depends on performance. I’d be looking at the sell through title by title. Some magazine distributors will do this for you if you do not have accurate data for yourself.

Chris’s comment is spot on! sharing an example of what you expect from your staff when merchandising such as these displays. A key foundation for success! I regularly go into Newsagencies because I buy magazines as well as sell them and this example tells me I am welcome, staff are good and importantly I want to buy.

    Great crossword display also.

Has anybody got any secrets on how to fix magazines curling up other than rotating stock, usually front cover?

Derek, I’m in Qld and with the heat over night and the air con in the day some magazines suffer a lot – collapsing to the right.

I’ve experimented and found that taking them off and rolling them the opposite way they have naturely curled works alright.

    Derek,

to stop magazines falling forward in the shelving, have sheets of A4-sized clear acrylic cut and simply place in front of the magazine.

This has worked in our store for years.
