NSW catches up to online lottery sales

The NSW State Government has introduced legislation to permit the sale of lottery tickets online.  The Sydney Morning Herald has the story.

In Victoria, Tattersalls has been successful in driving online lottery sales for several years.  Click here to see my first post about this in April 2005.  Tattersalls uses its retail network of newsagencies and other businesses cleverly to drive online sales.  This is done without compensation to the retailers.

In Queensland, the Golden Casket pays a small trail commission to newsagents who sell a registration card which is used for online sales.  This was negotiated by the Queensland Lottery Agents association.  While the trail could be larger and run for longer, it at least respects the role the retail outlets play in facilitating growth in online sales.

The reality is that more over the counter business will move online.  While it would be a waste of resources to try and stop the online businesses, we must not permit our retail businesses to be used to facilitate migration of our customers online as has happened in Victoria.

Get a load of this latest doozy from Intralot…the company you reckon is trying so hard and doing so great Mark…this is so stupid and at the same time so serious its a farce they are allowed to hold a licence to sell lottery products…people with legitimite ticket prizes from sundays bingo are printing as non prizes because they use the new model software, started today,to check last weeks ticket….someone didnt think different model games require two different applications to check the ticket properly, or to turn on or off or differentiate between the two game types…what a bunch of clowns…how do we know the other non winning tickets we have checked, have in fact been non winners, surely the govt must ask tough questions as to how these idiots can be trusted with anything, how do we or the public trust their equipment, software ,management ,games…im astounded by such an oversight…

Helen, a very small trail, we earn more when they enter our stores so it’s a bit of a lucky dip with who actually buys online, I’d rather the customer come to the store.

    It’s for 12 months

Helen at least Intralot acknowledges their mistakes. Did you read the tatts notice yesterday? Full of rubbish about the 711 business. They must think we are idiots. We are because we will let them get away with this.

Vic,i agree with you about the tatts crap, its an insult to work so hard for them and jump so many hurdles and they do that(the 7/11 thing),i spoke to a 7/11 franchisee i know who has it installed, guess what NO training,NO fees paid, as ive said before this has been the worst ive been treated by my suppliers in 22 years of owning newsagencies, not just tatts, but intralots a disgrace, the publishers, the list goes on and on

To change the tone it might be a positive move if we all nominate the best supplier we have dealt with all year to alert others to outstanding and supportive suppliers,my vote this year has to be vbw(victorian book wholesalers) …great product, great service, great margins, sale or return, catalogues, and they sell heaps and heaps, ive got to give a slap where ones due the best supplier ive dealt with all year..highly recomend them

Michael ,a small trail it may be ,but when tatts turn over more than $200 million a year online, the comission on those sales should be shared by the reseller network not the promoters.ive said this before, i want to know where in their licence it allows them to be the wholesaler and retailer of the game,my understanding is they shouldnt be doing both .Thats nearly 20 million in commission that should be being shared by tatts network us alone per year
