The 2006 and 2007 issues of Australian Senior’s Guide to Digital Photography from Maximedia each had a sell through of 0%. NDD sent us three copies of the 2008 issue – with a six month on-sale. The sales history which NDD has ought to have resulted in supply of this title being cut entirely. NDD’s decision is inexcusable.
At the Maximedia website consumers can buy this title for $14.95. The price through newsagencies is $16.95. Maximedia will do deals if you buy 20 or more copies – discounts start at 25%. While I understand the need for publishers to pursue a multi channel approach, the disparity between the direct to consumer versus newsagent offer is concerning.
We are early returning the copies we received in each of our newsagencies.
On the title itself, I think it is a dud, certainly not worth the prices they charge. Our shelves are well stocked with better Digital Photography content.
We put in on the backroom shelf to return as soon as we opened it at 6:10AM.
I think seniors would prefer a 35mm based magazine personally
as soon as I saw it this morning, I had the same idea to early return my allocation.
All the other senior guides b4 were duds as well in my shop.

I got a whole pile of them, somehow I don’t think they’ll do well, so I’ll keep only a couple and send back the rest.

I think it goes to show to publishers and distributors that we aren’t following Mark as closely as they’d like to think. There is no influence when I do something at six in the morning, then Mark post the same decision at four in the afternoon.
I’m doing what Bario is doing with the Groovy Grandma’s. I’m giving it a prime postition though to try and get it started.
I’m in the process of buying a newsagency.
Does anyone maintain a list of magazines that never sell and should be early returned?
Max, It varies from store to store. If the business you are buying has software which is being used properly you should be able to access reports which help. mark
G & G Supplied me yesterday with 2008 AFL footy cards. What a joke. Always out of stock when you want them. “Planning your Wedding in Melbourne” that should sell well, Melbourne is only a 7 hour drive from us. But at least G&G have the best online supp return system.
Thanks for the tip mark. They sent me four of these photography magazines and I have never sold any in the past. The anf should alert us to these things.

Same here, 2008 football cards, return date week 08/09; it’s laughable that they think newsagents won’t pick this stock up and throw it back in their face.
It’s also a clear abuse of an unfortunate privilage they are given.

we too received a box of footy cards yesterday. Just another way to drain our cash especially coming up to Christmas time. Watch those magzines roll in over the next few weeks!!!!
