One innovative newsagent in Queensland has reinvented their newspaper display to promote other products – magazines currently as the photo shows. Previously, this entire space was a newspaper story. This move is a slap in the face for Queensland Newspapers which appears to take a less flexible view to product placement than their News Limited counterparts in the southern states. Anchoring a product to a fixed location is bad for business. Smart newspaper publishers work with newsagents on more flexible and changeable displays.
We’re thinking of changing our newspaper stand to something like that. One problem we face is the different sizes of the Courier mail and GC Bulletin, Mondays they’re wafer thin then on Saturdays they’re are a thick as a book.
So in the above photo the newsagent would place the weekend bullie in front of where it would sit in the week?

Brett, I’ll be up there in a couple of weeks for the day, I’ll see if I can pop in.
What does your Qld News rep think of it?

If you are a full service newsagency (with a run) I doubt the rep would like it much but it does a great job and looks great too.
My old newspaper area now sells gifts really well.

I’m a sub-agent. I’d don’t like how they take up a prime postition, but really it’s the posters above them that are taking up the space, no one reads them, so I’d like to convert it like above.

Love the idea. But I would probably use the full faced covers to their advantage with multiple facings and some vertical merchandising – it looks a little visually noisy.

Michael,
Couldn’t agree more – newspaper posters take up premuim space and do nothing. They are a costly waste of space that could be used far more efficiently. Why allocate price retail space to something you don’t even sell?

The Courier Mail is located at the rear of the store.
