With credit so much in the news, now is a good time for newsagents to promote a lay by service for Christmas purchases. Promoted well, this should attract sales which might otherwise have gone to a larger business more known for Lay By. Ure to take care of record keeping.
What in terms of product do you get customers interested in putting on lay by?

We pack book packs for a number of schools and although we have allowed layby in previous years, we are advertising it for the first time this year. We are also advertising the family tax benefits for school children. Already we are getting parents coming in wanting to layby their packs and we haven’t yet finalised our booklists with the schools yet. We use Tower Systems and the layby facility make it easy to manage. Although money is tight in most families, if you do everything you can to make it easier for them you will still get their custom.

That isn’t a bad idea PB, I was thinking of getting in contact with a local school and getting a stationery list and making up packs like that.

Lay-by is good because it better connects them with your business. For customers, it is all about managing their cash. That we can do it in small business shows we can compete, on this front, with the big guys.
