The Apple iPhone is now a portable newspaper home delivery run management device thanks to the geeks at Tower Systems.
The photo shows a newspaper run list live on an iPhone. This takes the feed direct from our software.
What is really cool is that you can turn the phone on its side and the run list turns with you. You can re-size the text using the usual iPhone touchscreen tools.
While I don’t expect many newsagents to use an iPhone for run lists, it is cool to have the option. It also demonstrates innovation around newspaper home-delivery business.
I don’t have a run and I don’t know if it’s been done before, but I know you can set up a GPS to do multi stops in the order you want.
So the same thing but shows the road and has the bonus of someone Englishman telling you when to throw it?

Now, if only we could get an audio output so drivers would not have to take their eyes off the road or stop to view the next throw. We have used tapes for years on one of our runs and it beats all else.. hands down. Play the next two or three throws..then pause. Ahhhh if only….

We have been using a Hp ipaq for more than two years now and its the best money we have ever spent. Easily read at night plus its takes up a quater of the room the old run book does.
Just buy yourself a mobile phone holder from Super Cheap Auto. It attaches itself to your windscreen like a gps system and have found my eyes on the road a lot more than when we had the printed run.

Hi Mark, is this able to work on an iPod touch also? It’s the same as an iPhone except for the mobile phone functions so you would think that it may be able to?
Thanks

I have an elderly lady that does my deliverys for me she delivers about 250 papers a day and it is all from memory she does not look at paper work at all (we print it all out and she puts it in the bin )she remebers all the stop starts and she knows all the houses by the first and last name ,it is a small town but she still amazes me everyday on how she can remember all of that and she is in her 80s .

Talking about this topic it is important to mention the arrival of the arrival of the new iPhone application based on the Pagestreamer technology created by the Italian company 8080. This solution allows the distribution of a complete mobile newspaper using just a PDF file especially conceived to be an highly optimized, visually pleasant and really usable iPhone application. Publishers could get many advantages from this new app because they could manage subscriptions studying download and usage statistics and monitoring relevant information about their audience. 8080 offers also the possibility of listening to a multilingual podcast version of each newspaper story, read aloud by a high quality synthetic voice, directly on the iPhone. If you want to get more info about that you can visit the following website:http://www.pagestreamer.com/index.html
