This ink dispensing unit branded Affordable Ink has been installed at Forest Hill Chase. A check this morning of their prices shows that their branded ink is not so affordable. The same products at our newsagency in the centre retail for between 10% and 20% less. What frustrates me is that the landlord lets another competitor in with dubious offer and based on a low real-estate and labour cost model. This is disrespectful to existing tenants. I wonder what their marketing, cleaning and other contributions are. I am all for competition – Dick Smith is about to open opposite us – but in fair terms and based on an honest offer.
I would be interested if others have seen these units.
I agree, that is very annoying that the landlord is going for a quick buck.
I can’t see it working in a shopping centre though, What if you make an incorrect choice or the product is faulty? You’re stuck with it. (After my experience with many airport vending machines!!!)
I’d even pay more for the personal service and trust that you get for a newsagent or who ever.
It probably won’t be there in six months Mark.

similar to coke and cigarette vending machines – they will never replace face to face customer service based retail

Reminds me of the random things you can buy from vending machines in Japan, dont think it will kick off here though.

Vending machines with obscure products in them like this one don’t seem to work in Australia. I don’t think it will be there in a few months. Against Dick Smith, the HotInk prices are fairly neck and neck.. so you might get some healthy competition there. Compared to the post office, I’m sure the Dick Smith would be happy to recommend your store if they don’t have an ink model that you guys may have.
