The Trading Post is running a good competition at the moment offering a $1,000 prize to the newsagency which submits the best idea for how they would invest $1,000 in their business. I like the competition because of the opportunity for newsagents to engage with their staff in how $1,000 could be invested to improve the business. Any discussion about how to improve the business has to be worthwhile.
How does this help the Trading Post??? I haven’t recieved any info on this promotion

Michael,
It gets newsagents and their staff talking about the Trading Post for a start. It also shows them doing something to help.
This may be a Melbourne only promotion.

I like the competition and any that gets us thinking, it seems strange that we’re not being asked how they can improve it by us providing customer feedback.
How would you spend $1000 to improve your agencies Mark?

Michael, I won’t respond at the moment. I’d rather see what the teams in my newsagencies come up with first. Mark

It would be good if we all shared a list with ideas and prices.
With my situation at the moment and at that price($1000), I’d probably get my own drinks fridge so I can purchase drinks at cheaper prices and stock what I want/need and not have some “gestapo” drinks rep telling me what I’m doing wrong!

Michael,
I share plenty here. This time round I want to see what my on teams develop first.

Michael, enough is enough. we told the rep to take their fridge back more than a year ago and bought our own. I think the money is well invested and now we buy at the best offer and stock what we can sell.
The best thing is no more some idiot rep telling us what we can sell.

Mark you do share a hell of a lot. I was thinking of other people that read here that have great ideas that can be shared to help our industry. And your teams can’t use the fridge idea now!
Bario, are you selling more now than you were before?

we are in a local shopping strip with plenty of choices to buy drinks.
so it’s not a case of selling more but buying the ones that do sell.
previously it was like having to stock majority from 1 company and not having the flexibility to stock others that sell well.
Also even if you buy at the same stock at a cheaper price from another distributor, the rep is not happy and kept on threatening to take fridge back.
We always show him the other invoice and say we’ll buy if he can match it. But he refused and so we only buy when he has real specials on.
One day when he threatened again, we say take the fridge back!!!!And good riddance…..one less rep to deal with.

That’s the same situation I’m in. I have two shelves that pay for the fridge which aren’t his product. If we didn’t have those two shelves performing I’d have “internet cafe” in that space instead.
I’m going to put the gestapo rep through his paces over the next few months until I decide on what to do!!

Wen, how about sub-agents?

I’m afraid I don’t have the details, Michael. My partner told me about it after he sent his entry to feedback@tradingpost.com.au . I guess if you have a direct supply agreement, then definately. Alternatively, you could ask the Trading Post area rep. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

That’s alright Wen, thank you.
I might give it a miss and give someone a chance!!!
