Who magazine comes with a free CD this week. It is an excellent giveaway but with counter space already taken we have created space at our main lottery counter to promote the title. While this is not as bold as our usual promotional display, I expect sales will reflect good results for us in this premium counter placement.
This is an option that could or should be explored by the various newsagents associations around the country, given a high enough volume these could be used as a promotion for newsagents. Newsagents would be able to offer the long shelf-life required to ensure all copies are sold/given away and it would drive sales away from service stations and supermarkets. This is something that has always surprised me that these giveaways are not targeted to sales locations more often.

jeremy – this is already done. newspower and i think, nextra have done their own mag promotions previously, like new idea with sample bags etc, or tip-ons. same as how coles etc sometimes have free stuff that newsagencies don’t get and vice versa.

Col, Jeremy is talking specifically about the CD on Who. I am not aware of any marketing groups embracing this idea as yet. Mark
