New approach to managing magazine supply

Newsagents Direct Distribution and Tower Systems are proud to announce the most significant development for newsagents in the magazine supply model in decades.

Thanks to new software and back office processes developed over eight months through a joint project with NDD, Tower Newsagents will soon have access to a supply model which more closely matches their specific needs.

The Tower software provides NDD with category level data which enables NDD to benchmark at the store level and regionally.

Mark Darton, General Manager of NDD said “Until now, like the other distributors, we haven’t had the tools to assess total market trends on such a timely basis. This initiative provides visibility and will assist retailer, distributor and publisher decisions.”

Mark Fletcher, Managing Director of Tower Systems said “No one profits from unsold magazines. For the first time, the allocations team in a magazine distribution business will have visibility of the data they need to drive more beneficial allocations for Australian newsagents.”

The NDD/Tower initiative has been running in two newsagencies for several months. Next week, the trial will be extended to fifty newsagencies.

thats all good but to say no one profits from unsold magazine ,that is surely false they have our money for months before the magazines go back and to think anything will change in the future with over supply we can only dream of that day

Unfortunately the above comment is very true. However it is good to see NDD addressing the issue.

I see a lot of data mining potential for the distributor who can sell this info to publishers and only nebulous benefits for the newsagent

But don’t you see … this is “the most significant development for newsagents in the magazine supply model in decades.” It has to be … Mark Fletcher is involved. Give us a break Mark: you are the best one-handed typist in the world.

    Thomas,

You can sit there at the side, anonymously carping, or you an do your research, understand the development with NDD and make ann intelligent comment. The only problem with that is that it would not suit your agenda.

I had a choice to make – improve change in partnership with NDD or not. I chose to make progress on an issue of great importance to newsagents.

Thomas, why do you dribble on in every blog thread, you made your point a long time ago, move on and let people decide for themselves! you do yourself no favours and no one will take you seriously by carrying on like this.

ONE MORE THING WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE RETURN DATA THAT THEY ALREADY HAVE SURELY THEY CAN WORK IT OUT FROM THOSE FIGURES . 10 MAGAZINES COME IN THE SHOP 9 GO BACK 15 ARRIVE NEXT TIME ROUND UNLESS IT IS SOMETHING THAT YOU DO SELL AND THEN THEY WILL NOT SUPPLY YOU WITH ENOUGH STOCK .

I like all newsagents have had my issues with NDD. This initiative sounds good. Something had to change.

First congratulations Mark on developing systems/information that will help to reduce oversupply by magazine distributors. It will be interesting to see how competitve forces respond to the initiative. Magazine distributors have always had sales results for the magazines that they supply. And with XchangeIT they had this information earlier – the day after sales. I assume the new information relates to total category sales at each newsagent. Magazine sales at individual outlets are kept as closely guarded secrets by each distributor. It will be interesting to see how they respond to accumulated data sharing at the newsagent category level. Also to be worthwhile in the long term, such information needs to be available to every distributor so that overall supply can be improved. That being said it does provide Tower Systems with a competitive advantage over its rivals, at least until they develop similar solutions. Well done!
