Silly Stationers Supply

Stationers Supply, a warehouse supplying newsagents in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, has reportedly decided to remove 3M products from its product mix. This is nuts. 3M brands like Scotch, PostIT and Command are important to newsagents. For a warehouse to remove them will only harm the warehouse as newsagents will source what they need elsewhere.

UPDATE 02/04/08 (10:30AM) : Stationers management has reversed its earlier decision and will continue to stock 3M.  A 3M rep has contacted me and advised me of this this morning.

I have had a conversation with the MD of Stationers and he says he never made the decision about 3M in the first place.  Personally, I doubt this.

UPDATE: 02/04/08 (01:42PM):  Stationers Supply has contacted me again and threatened legal action if I do not remove this post altogether.  While I could do that it would not represent the events.  I heard through 3M yesterday about the decision – one of my newsagencies had been told.  I subsequently heard through 3M this morning that Stationers reversed their decision.  No legal threat can alter what happened.

Received a call from George Rossengas regarding this article and I will need to speak to you regarding the content of your Article. Bottom line is george has not taken 3M off the shelves. This needs to be communicated to the trade via your blog.

Ted, George may want to communicate that through 3M as the information came to be from them. Mark

THIS IS NUTS, MY COMPANY DEALS WITH STATIONERS SUPPLY QLD AND WE DO ORDER ALOT OF 3M STOCK SO WE WILL NOW HAVE TO LOOK AT THE OTHER SUPPLIERS FOR QLD WHERE WE CAN GET OUR 3M STOCK.
SORRY STATIONERS BUT HEY SOURCING QUALITY PRODUCTS FOR OUR CUSTOMERS IS OUR BUSINESS, AND IF YOU REFUSE TO STOCK 3M WE WILL HAVE TO BUY OUR GOODS ELSEWHERE

Thanks for your feedback . There is abundant stock of 3M product in all three warehouses for Stationers Supply and this is to positively state that Stationers Supply is a authorised wholesaler for 3M Office and Consumer products.

My information was not from Stationers but from the supplier. I’ll verify again.

    Dear Mark
It has come to our attention that when one googles for our company “Stationers Supply”, the results display in close proximity to an outdated and (even at the time) perjorative comment based on error of fact, in an old blog of your “newsagency”site. The operative word to which exception is taken, is… “silly”.

I’m sure we can rely on you to cause this to be removed. It has generated some comment and we wish to foreclose further and possibly negative impressions being formed.
    Thank you in anticipation

    Cheryl,

The original post and comments are two years old. The only complaint I have received is the threat of legal action from your company two years ago and your request in the last few days.

I am loath to revise history and remove the post as you request.

    Dear Mark
Frequency of complaint is not the measure of whether the blog should be removed.
Derogatory effect, (at fist sight, and uncorrectable without taking a long read down the entries) and your continuiing to retain the post to cause further derogatory effect is the correct yardstick.
If one read for some time one realises that the sobriquet is contested; has been corrected as to the misstated facts even by the originating 3M party, and while the remark was sufficiently egregious to draw forth the normal foreshadowed defences to injured reputataion, has been even very recently respectfully requested of you to remove, as of no possible present factual value. (This recent contact is only because it was only recently drawn to our attention)
I’m sure you do not wish to give the harsh impression that the retaining of it in present form is calculated to continue any injury to Stationers interests, so once more I respectfully ask that it be removed.

You are silly, Stationers Supply, if you like to google old posts of yourselves and make baseless legal threats!!

The legal threats would probably make more sense if you could write properly.

What is quite humourous about this whole thing is that by digging up old news it becomes current news.

It would appear to me, as a newsagent and a consumer, that the blog has been updated with the relevant and appropriate information in the body of the blog so no misrepresentation has been made.

By persuing this line of demands you are making yourself an enemy of newsagents who respect this blog, the people on it and use it as a tool for communication on current issues facing newsagents across the country and in some places the world.

Sometimes it is best to let sleeping dogs lie.
