The first five movies to be released through Australian newsagents in the Classic John Wayne Collection part series are: Part 1 – The Searchers; Part 2 – Rooster Cogburn; Part 3 – Hell Fighters; Part 4 – Rio Bravo; Part 5 – Stage Coach. I am told that some rights are still being negotiated – hence the lack of a complete list.
It is interesting to see that your market is getting a completely different order of films to the UK. The Classic John Wayne Collection kicked off wth ‘She Wore a Yellow Ribbon’over here.
It was launched 12 month ago with the sharply priced fisrt issue selling well which helped us pick up a couple of orders and we held on to them for about 20 issues. The customers then both felt that they had enough JW stock!
Steve,
Did ‘The Quiet Man’ make it to the collection?
Steve I think it’s to do with licences and these are country by country.
Hi Brett
yes, we had the quiet man early on in the series.

Hey i was really hoping to get the dvd of the searchers at the newsagents however they had run out and now its on to the 2nd movie. Is there any way that i can get the searchers still
Ask your local newsagent to order it in. As I understand it there is no stock problem.
Does anyone know what the 5th issue is in Australia? My husband a keen John Wayne fan, we have a large amount on DVD, would like to complete the set.
Tah

I’ve just been told by newsagent that this series goes for 60 issues. Is this true? If so that means it will be close enough to $1200AUD.
I’ve come across this page by accident I’m in Ireland getting the UK version of the collection and this week is number 43, I’m unsure as to how many will be issued but the earliest DVD is Hell Town (1937) and there is 48 films from 1937 to 1977 that have yet to be released as part of the collection so 90 could be the last one as collection tends to be sets of 15 DVDs, I doubt that Wayne films from late 20’s to mid 30’s will be released due to poor surviving master copies and the fact that they are not that good.
I have been pirchasing this set of DVDs for my parents. I contacted Deagostini when we got to film 60 to see how many more there would be and was told that 60 should be it as they had not been made aware that any more were being released. We have just recieved 61 & 62 and on 62 it says about issue 63. We also got a new binder for the magazines so I guess we will be filling it. You could be right Paul looks like 90 could be on the cards.
My wife has been collecting the John Wayne Collection and has just picked up the latest No. 70!!
So its about time that we were told how many there are
I emailed Deagostini and asked how many are planned and they told me that 90 are currently planned, Current UK issue is 71 with 7 more mentioned in the dvd case, so another year for the collection.
I addeed up John Wayne films some time ago and the partwork could go as far as 120 if Deagostini got the rights to some rare never released on VHS or DVD films
Hi, we are now on issue 80, so lets hope they finish soon, im running out of space ha, Good luck folks x
I still think 90 will be the final issue even though in theory could go up to 145 (thats the amount of John Wayne films on DVD) if the get the rights to release some films. The seem to do them in sets of 15 so 135 could be final issue.
Classic John Wayne Collection has now been extended to 96 issues
Hi i’m in N.S.W and have just got up to “west of the divide” around issue 60 something ..but still no sign of Quite Man or she wore a yellow ribbon, or fighting seabees, or even I maried a woman !!!!!
a great collection so far …..
We’re upto issue 92 in UK….93 is Shadow Of The Eagle so if it IS stopping at 96 one of the last three had better be McQ….you can’t have a John Wayne collection without McQ! Though I appreciate there may be rights issues as Escape From Alcatraz and Paint Your Wagon weren’t included in the Clint Eastwood collection.
94 is McQ
95 is The Three Musketeers
The Wings of Eagles or Lawless Range have been mention as “forthcoming” so they could be number 96 but the series maybe extended again so who knows as the National Title File has now mentioned 105 as last issue.
I was surprised that The Drop Kick was released as part of the collection as this was its first time released on DVD in the UK so if the collection is extended we may see more rare John Wayne films released on DVD for the first time.
I suppose if demand continues and De Agostini can get the rights we could see all 155 Wayne related films released but i don’t think i could manage another 2.5 years collecting !
Thanks Paul….that’s interesting that they can get rights to films that have never been released on dvd before, there are a handful of Clint movies I don’t have which to the best of my knowledge aren’t available….Escapade In Japan,The First Traveling Saleslady,Away All Boats,Lafayette Escadrille and The Witches….guess there’s no chance of anyone ever releasing them now.
Got #96 today which is indeed Wings Of Eagles…but there is no ‘coming in issue 97’ on the back of the mag,nor is there any note in the package to say it’s the last issue.
My issue had 2 leaflets perhaps one was meant for your issue it just stated that issue 96 was the final issue and thanking the reader for collecting the series
There was 2 films mentioned that were never released Lawless Range and Hondo
but Hondo was released as part of the Westerns Collection but not the John Wayne collection
Definitely no letter in my pack but I’ve heard from someone else who had said letter so it looks like it’s finished then.
Just had another package from Deagostini containing the last dvd storage box and magazine binder. Apparently they realised they hadn’t sent enough out! Note says you can send them back for a refund if you don’t want them.
could anyone please tell me where i could get the dvd boxes for the dvds to go in and the binders for the magazines please< i have all john wayne dvds and magazines but not he binders and boxes for the dvds, thanks
I am a collector and at the moment I have 137 John Wayne titles, there are 2 I have not been able to get, they are Lady and Gent 1932 & That’s My Boy 1932, if any one can help me with these titles I would appreciate it.
