Great to see bopo being promoted on the cover of Australian Women’s Weekly. With newsagents a key retail partner for bopo this marketing on the cover is relevant to us and most welcome.
bopo is interesting. While we don’t do much recharge business for this prepaid debit card yet, I know of some newsagencies where it generates considerable traffic. Being on the cover of AWW will make it more mainstream as will their connection with MTV announced a couple of weeks ago.
too bad there is no mention of newsagents whatsoever on the card
While the bopo card idea has its merits i don’t think its exposure through the AWW will bring it huge success.
Its market is reasonably limited and that will always be a barrier for the product.

Were there any notable features of that newsagency’s demographics? Also, do you know what ‘type’ of customers were using the card?
We had the product in a prime position on the counter up until three months ago. We had a reasonable number of customers enquire as to what it was and how it worked, but most werent interested when they become informed. We only get one customer topping up their card every month or so.
On a comparitive note, i have noticed more and more customers using Visa-Debit (or similar) cards. This product has had extensive exposure in the marketplace and is subsequently well known by consumers. In my opinion it is a far better product, but that may just be me.
It would be interesting to see figures on how successful the Bopo product is from a sales and top-up perspective.
Is anyone else having trouble with people trying to pull the card off the front of the magazine and walking away with it.
We locate the AWW at the front counter and I cannot count the number of times people have pulled the card off the mag and walked off, not just your average grubs but old people as well. We have got approx 50 mags that do not have the card attached.
Its just a whing but people do surprise me with thier ignorance some times.
Great idea maybe more thought in application, as we are complaining about post its defacing newspaper covers, we dont want to be hypocrites do we?
