The Government owned Australia Post retail shop opposite my newsagency has gone out very early with Father’s Day cards – see the display inside the door on the left? While not a big range it is a bold pitch being made to those who have to go to Australia Post because of their monopoly.
Fight fire with fire Mark. Based on the pathetic display, Australia Post are not interested in this market. They are just trying to get the impulse buy from the customer.
I would be contacting your card supplier and demanding they come out and set up the best Fathers Day display right in the walk through area out the front of your shop. Ask your supplier for a BBQ and give every customer the chance to win it with every purchase. Even better, tie in the promotion with something from Bill Express, then they won’t even have to walk into the Post Office!
Your customers will love you for it!

Vaughan we will have a sensational Father’s day display, always do. What annoys me about Australia Post is that they land customers in their shops for a fraction of what it costs yet they say they have no benefits of government ownership. One day they will lose their monopoly.

Mark,
It looks to me as if that is a John Sands RSU. I am with John Sands and received my Fathers Day product 3 days ago which I thought was a bit early. I’m not sure if all of Australia Post shops are the same but this may have as much to do with John Sands pushing this product out early as well as AP. I would have liked a couple or more weeks before all this but my Aus. Post shop has the same display out and about already as well.

John Sands; not sure about that. Saying that; i know JS must be hurting big time after losing a 5 million dollat account in NZ! I know some of the deals they are throwing around are bordering on the ridiculous!
