I continue to be surprised by the difference in customer interaction in my newsagency and my card and gift shop. Both are in the same centre and often attract the same customers. However, customers act differently in each store. In the card and gift shop people tend to share more of themselves and their experiences whereas I the newsagency speed to exit is the issue.
Take these Anzac inspired sculptures…
We bought them not expecting strong sales – more for creating a connect with Anzac Day this week. Customers who see the sculptures often have a story to tell.
Seeing a customer bring someone else in just to look at the sculptures makes us feel good. It’s one of the experiences we wanted to create with this new shop.
There is an emotional connection we experience in the card and gift shop which we see less often in the newsagency.
The Anzac statues are lovely. Great idea, well done. Lest we forget.

No. We also sell sympathy cards, commemorative gifts, photos of legends who have died. My company has a well established giving and community support program. Mark

Nelson – just as I wonder what planet that serial pest M Stephens is from, I wonder if you are trying to trigger a record number of comments here.
I suppose you would consider the newspaper puiblishers and sellers who will sell lots of papers tomorrow and Thursday full of pictures of the various dawn services and the RSL members who sell poppies and ANZAC badges to raise much needed funds for Legacy as profiteers trading on the diggers memories as well. And while we are at it, why not include the magazine publishers who will no doubt have a few full page spreads on Australians visiting Gallipoli!
Just like that other serial (pest) blogger will eventually understand, emotive language will never replace the truth.

Well jimbo, Nelson’s got a ways to go if that’s his plan, yours is only the 4th and mine’s probably the last because good folks are getting their zs now before the dawn service. That record won’t make the Guinness Book.
