State by state differences in lottery offerings

How can it be that the state owned NSW Lotteries can offer lottery retailers free promotional product while Tattersalls in Victoria offers nothing?

In NSW on Feb. 23 and 24 if you buy a 30 game Megapick in draw 2671 you get eight standard Autopick games of Monday and Wednesday free. The seller gets commission on the paid for and free product.

This is a good deal for the consumer and for the lottery agent.

There are similar deals for Powerball, 6 from 38 Pools and instants.

    Hi Mark,

NSW Lotteries also run these often with Powerball. They entice a customer to purchase a megapick and in doing so receive a $5 Jackpot Lottery ticket.

They are quiet effective; and I am suprised that they are not rolled out nationally.

I have to admit though; they are not as many promotions occuring here as what their use to be. But still enough to help with the building of the lottery sales.

The promotions are generally effective (depending on the promotion and the game they are associated with). I cant believe Tatts doesn’t do the same! Actually, im stunned!

NSW Lottereis didnt used to run many promotions. They would basically have the scratchie promotions and that was all. But over the last couple of years they have been increasing the number of promotions. Now there is nearly a promotion every week or two. I have to admit i think NSW Lottereis has done a good job in supporting agents and in the marketing area over the last few years.

It does raise questions as to national conformity/standards of lotteries. The states need to start looking towards the future and at the problems with their fractured national system.

We arrange fund our own promotions in Victoria at the store level. While the Tattersalls point of sale material is excellent, that’s about the end of it unfortunately. I was stunned by what NSW provides.
