We’re drowning in Kitchen magazines with six current titles. This title came in today and the distributor, NDD, expects us to hold the stock for a year. Considering the sell price, the cost of the real-estate and our sales history for the title, it’s yet another magazine from NDD on which we will lose money. Newsagents need a central authority approving access to our retail network for titles. Without this we will continue to be over serviced in categories such as kitchens. This is draining millions of dollars from our businesses.
When you get a new one, can you send one of the old ones back? If you have 6 titles, would 3 or 4 be enough?
What is the ANF for? they don’t seem to help you once you have been approved to be a newsagent and paid their fee. Oh yeah, and you can get the ugly uniform. Why isn’t there a concensus of newsagents pushing these issues?
Spend a little less on fancy conferences where you are given lots of sales pitch, and have a meeting where you talk about real issues and tell the board members what newsagents want for their own businesses to work better.
